Iraya High School (IHS) is a public secondary school located at the lakeside barangay in the Municipality of Buhi, Camarines Sur which is four (4) kilometers away from the town proper and can only be reached by boat for a 40-minute ride. It has three (3) feeder barangays, namely: Ibayugan, Iraya and Ipil, all located at the Lakeside of Lake Buhi.
The effort of the Barangay Council of Iraya to have an accessible secondary school was paid off and materialized when Mr. Salvador L. Paile. of San Vicente National High School under the leadership and management of Ma’am Erma D. Escuro PhD, the principal of SVNHS in year 2014, spearheaded the opening of extension schools in the municipality of Buhi, one of which is Iraya High School in 2014. With the effort and support of the Iraya Barangay Council and Hon. Victor Ramon H. Carullo whom donated a 7,500 sq. meters of land for the school. Classes were held in a makeshift classroom made of bamboo, betel palms, coconut and nipa with 84 students with its two volunteer teachers, Ma’am Lalyn D. Ponciano and Sir Pedro V. Negrillo Jr. After a month they were joined by another volunteer teacher, Mr. Raul Leal. In July 2014, Buhi was struck by a typhoon which resulted in the collapsing of the makeshift and for the school to continue its service the classes were conducted at the Barangay Chapel of Iraya while the makeshift is under repair with the help of the parents and the Barangay Officials. After a month they’ve decided to go back to the school site and continue teaching the students.
In October of the same year, Sir Leo B. Besenio, an English Teacher of San Vicente National High School, becomes part of the team. They continued to provide education to the learners, despite of the different circumstances that comes.
In March 2015, Mrs. Charity Lirios-Baduria, became the new designated Teacher-In-Charge/School Head of the school until 2021. The school has grown its population over the years and cater for Grades 7 to 10. In March 2021, Ma’am Rycille D. Espinar took in-charge of the school as an Officer-in-charge and in May 2021, Sir Alvin S. Castañeda became the new school head.
In November 2024, in the absence of a school head, Ma’am Lalyn P. Negrillo a Teacher III designated by the Schools Division Superintendent of Division of Camarines Sur, Ma'am Norma B. Samantela, CESO V, and acted as its Officer-in-Charge. At present, there are 21 permanent teachers, 1 non-teaching personnel, and jobbers working hand-in-hand to continue nurturing learners. And with the help of its stakeholders, the school continuously strives for competence and excellence to effectively deliver and realize the Vision, Mission, and Goals of the Department of Education.
